AMY’S SHADOW

I missed my bed.

It’s not even mine—not really, since it came with the apartment—but after spending one night outside, sleeping on top of a pile of garbage bags, I’m so glad to be sleeping on a real mattress.

Even better? Is having Nox right next to me, getting some rest of his own.

Turns out that Sombra demons don’t need anywhere near as much sleep as humans do. I’m okay with six or seven hours. Nox, as a trained hunter, could get by with three or four hours every few days and not lose a step. I’m pretty sure he didn’t get a wink the entire time we were hidden in his shadows. After everything we did yesterday and last night, I was happy to see that he knocked out shortly after I did.

I peeked. Half-dazed from pleasure—and, okay, twinging a little from the aftermath of our vigorous mating—I woke up after about an hour. I got up to pee and tidy myself, then I spent a good fifteen minutes just watching Nox.

My big shadow man snores. It was freaking adorable.

He also flexed his fingers, searching for me. His eyes were closed. During his sleep, he’d gone from a brawny, red-skinned demon with shadowy claws and a size-changing cock to completely inky black. He wasn’t mist, so I could still feel his body against me, but that was the first time I’ve seen him with his eyes closed. Without the blazing red color, he was pure shadow.

He also looked strikingly gorgeous without the hint of danger that peeks out of his fiery gaze…

Nox reached for me, sighing softly when the tips of his blunted claws found my thigh. I’d risen up on my knees, sitting on my heels as I watched him sleep peacefully. He was my mate, and he already gave me his express permission to touch him whenever I wanted to.

So I did. I’d stroked his hard jaw, tucking his hair behind his slightly pointed ear. Still asleep, he leaned into my palm. A ghost of a smile whispered across his face as he sighed again.

And, I thought as I scooted down to cuddle next to him, if I hadn’t been a hundred percent sure I made the right choice in tying myself to him for the rest of eternity, that would’ve done it for me then and there.

He’s not sleeping now. As I stretch myself awake, I see that it’s Nox’s turn to watch me as I snore. He’s still laying next to me, only he’s moved so that he’s on his side. His horn is digging into the wall between the rails of the headboard, leaving some sheetrock and paint chips on his pillow and in his messy hair. He doesn’t seem to mind. All of his attention is on me.

Do I blush? After last night, it seems kinda ridiculous. I mean, a mate is like a wife. The mate’s promise is an unbreakable vow that basically means we’re married in the demon way. Shit. My pussy was all over his face, and his cock… it was inside of me.
